Backpack Giveback was launched in 2021 by Kalia Roper, a San Diego student and founder of SET4SCHOOL, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting students with learning differences—particularly those with dyslexia. Inspired by her own challenges navigating the education system, Kalia realized that access to school supplies is a simple but powerful way to show students they matter.
Through Backpack Giveback, we collect new and gently used backpacks and fill them with essential supplies—spiral notebooks, crayons, glue sticks, highlighters, and more. These are donated directly to students in underserved communities.
But this is more than a donation drive. It’s a reminder that every child deserves to feel seen, supported, and ready to learn.
This initiative is part of SET4SCHOOL’s broader mission to break down educational barriers and empower all students—regardless of their learning differences or financial status.
